It Won't Be Long

Tele Novella

I told a story, it began and then it ended
And in the middle you were hanging by a thread
Oh, I could tell that you knew what was gonna happen
So I changed course and turned the plot right on its head

There was a murder, an affair and lots of money
A girl so beautiful they thought that she was still
Oh, I could see it in your eyes you thought it'd be her in disguise
But I gotcha 'cause it was always him

It won't be long before we're gone
There may be no one to remember
In the meanwhile I'm angling to make you smile
And if I do, my work is done

I told a story, did not know where it was going
And not to pose, but it was off to a good start
It was a while before I noticed you were crying
Who doesn't love a hero with a broken heart?

In the nick of time the loose ends tied up very neatly
Count myself lucky that it made sense in the end
Some of my other stories won't end on such a happy note
But I'll make it so long as we are friends

It won't be long before we're gone
There may be no one to remember
In the meanwhile I'm angling to make you smile
And if I do, my work is done
And if I do, my work is done
