Human Artifact

Autumn Tears

Winding roots slither into in the soil
We rest with the stones and shadows
The sunlight burrows deep
Dancing through cracks in the soil
And whispers of the dead guide us to the sky

Measuring the starsas they guide the evening’s teeth
Deep into my soft flesh
Past secrets uncoil like hidden serpents
Becoming part of our blood and bone

Feathered gods sing to Mother Earth
Disguised in tattered robes
She sleeps where the air is milder
And sings to forget her woes

Muffled suffering from a thousand wounds
Comfort from a song A song that is charged with a thousand words
And uttered from a thousand tongues

Death cannot intimidate me
The fury and calamity
Of a world unable to bend my will
These limbs I wear only for show

I remain a statue
A shadow beneath the dead leaves
Blind to the beauty and deaf to the sounds
Aching with the birth of each new day

Helpless, yet wiser than I will be today
What I hold in my handsIs the weight of all things

Death cannot intimidate me
The fury and calamity
Of a world unable to bend my will
These limbs I wear only for show

Helpless, yet wiser than I will be today
What I hold in my heartIs the way of all things
