The Thing I'd Never Say
ZN Rock
You won't catch me saying this with a microphone in hand
I'll be joking through the whole thing 'cause that's all I understand
That the best part of my week is in a room that isn't there
Full of people I have never met who somehow seem to care
We don't get into the heavy stuff, we argue and we joke
We settle every border war before the morning's broke
Nobody ever asks me how I'm doing, and that's why I go
'Cause I've been carried by a crowd that doesn't even know
So here's the part I'd never say
Not sober and not out loud
Not with a mic in front of me
Not standing in the crowd
Here's to the ones who show up every night and never ask me why
Here's to the noise, the arguments, the reasons that I try
You don't know the half of what you've pulled me through
And I'm never gonna say it, so here's the closest that I do
Here's to every one of you
And the thing I'd never say
There's a kind of friend you never meet and never see at all
Just a voice out of a speaker in an empty, darkened hall
But I've had worse from people I could reach across and touch
And I've had better here than out there, and I've missed it just as much
So here's the part I'd never say
Not sober and not out loud
Not with a mic in front of me
Not standing in the crowd
Here's to the ones who show up every night and never ask me why
Here's to the noise, the arguments, the reasons that I try
You don't know the half of what you've pulled me through
And I'm never gonna say it, so here's the closest that I do
Here's to every one of you
And the thing I'd never say
So raise it up for the loudest one
And the one who picks a fight
For the one who's always cordial
And the one who's always right
For the joker and the peacemaker
And the ones who just log on
You're a stupid little kingdom
And I'd be lost if you were gone
I'd be lost if you were gone
Here's to the ones who show up every night and never ask me why
Here's to the noise, the arguments, the reasons that I try
You don't know the half of what you've pulled me through
And I'm never gonna say it, so here's the closest that I do
Here's to every one of you
Here's to every one of you
And the thing I'd never say
Every one of you (here's to it)
Every one of you (here's to it)
And the thing I'd never say
