The smoke rises as if it were a prayer
And the sky swallows what the axe has done
There is no forgiveness in the cooling wind
Only the bill that comes more than once
We cut down what was not ours to cut
We call what's a scar progress
The earth bleeds and won't stop bleeding
And we pretend it never belonged to us, it says
That it came from fate, that it's a higher power
That the market regulates it, that the expert solves it
But every flood that inundates, every pain
Is the reflection of a mirror that no one embraces
There is no nature out there
You are nature, you're part of it now
And every burned tree burns within you
Every dead river is a seed that won't grow
The earth is not green, it's what we've destroyed
The earth has no borders, it's what we've sold
Green and blue were all we ignored
And the hell we reap, we planted
The flood didn't come out of nowhere, it came from us
From the concrete that suffocates where life should sprout
Nature isn't the victim, we are
We chose to destroy instead of inhabiting
It's disingenuous to say it's natural
When it was a hand, it was a choice, it was easy profit
The crisis didn't come from the cosmos, it came from the newspaper
From the pen that signed over the fragile map
Collapse
Collapse
Collapse
It wasn't the climate that changed
It was what we chose to be
The wind isn't to blame
The wind only obeyed
Everything that exists is one and the same
And we've burned a part of ourselves
There's no escape in technology
There's no escape in rhetoric
We are the
